Possibly the hardest-working stationery items around the country (*although I have nothing to confirm that), the A5 notepad is a staple of any stationery collection - great for meeting notes it’s also perfectly sized for keeping by a phone, on the kitchen bench for shopping lists or just for around the house leaving notes for whoever needs them.
This one features the Brighton Birds artwork which is a new pattern for 2023. Originally inspired by the Royal Pavillion in Brighton, close to where I grew up and with memories of colour and pattern filled school art trips, this pattern features handdrawn and hand-painted motifs which I then digitised and tweaked for this stylish stationery collection featuring this notepad, a notebook, double-sided bookmark and list pad.
This recycled paper notepad is intended to add a pop of colour and air of elegance to what’s on the page, be it a to-do list or phone message. The central panel is ever-so-slightly transparent, so you can still faintly see the pattern underneath, but also clearly read what’s been written.
The paper itself is recycled, and at 100gsm it is both lovely and smooth and robust enough to deal with highlighters and the inkiest of pens. There’s 50 sheets per pad, and they’re glued along the top edge making them easy to tear-off sheets without damaging the ones underneath. The notepad is backed by thick recycled card, so it’ll cope fine on a kitchen bench or tucked in a paper tray or letter holder, and it’s been printed here in the UK by a specialised eco-conscious printers who also uses vegetable oil based inks and conscientiously sources their paper stocks. Finally, this notepad will come to you wrapped in biodegradable cellophane, meaning that you can dispose of it in household rubbish guilt-free.
A5 pads just like this one make great gifts for a few reasons! Firstly they’re an easy shape to wrap and post. Secondly, they make a unique budget-friendly yet quality gift, especially good for a colleague or a secret-santa. And finally they’re a practical present too, so if you’re conscious about not wanting to get something for the sake of it a pad like this, or just generally beautiful patterned stationery, make a brilliant choice. In fact last year my A5 pads, and sets including them, were popular teacher gifts!
As I mentioned above there are a few products in this pattern collection, and should you want to make up a gift set there’s actually a few already put together in the Stationery Gift Set section. But of course, gift sets don’t always have to be matching patterns!
